CONTROVERSY of assassination
How? -
The assassination of Franz Ferdinand on the 28th June 1914, set in train a series of diplomatic events that led to the outbreak of World War l in Europe at the end of July 1914.
At around 10:00 a.m Franz Ferdinand began to head towards The City Hall in Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia. The motorcade had both Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie,Duchess of Hohenberg and the driver who was Fehim Curcic. The was exactly three auto mobiles in front and three behind Franz's car. These cars consisted of bodyguards and military members all in place to protect the Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
When the motorcade reached a cross road in Appel Quey (The road they were travelling on) a man named Cabrinovic threw a grenade at the motorcade although missed the motorcade and hit a nearby lamp post. The grenade after hitting the lamp post rolled to a nearby crowd and injured about a dozen people whilst bursting both of the tires on the right side of the car. Cabrinovic then consumed deadly poison and jumped into the River Miljaka. The poison was old and only made him vomit, he was quickly seized by the crowd and arrested.
It is said that there was other assassins who were supposedly ready to assassinate Franz whilst on the way to the City Hall. They were unable to attack Franz because of not only the high alert after the first attempt but all of the auto mobiles were going extremely fast to get to the meeting with out Franz getting injured.
On the way back from the meeting the Driver of Ferdinand's car changed the route so that they would go down Franz Joseph Street which ran parallel to Appel quey. After turning the car stopped and Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie Duchess of Hohenburg were fatally shot by Gavrilo Princip who was a Serbian nationalist. Princip then turned the gun on himself, but was mobbed by the crowd. Police had to rescue Princip from the crowd before they could arrest him. Princip had swallowed his poison, but it was from the same batch as Cabrinovic's. He was violently ill, but did not die.
Both Franz and Sophie did not die at the seen but it is said that they died in the car on the way to the hospital.
Controversy -
1) One of the most controversial aspects of this assassination is the fact that the car turned down the wrong before Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. Many people believe that the driver was apart of the plan to kill the Archduke, Although some people believe this others are under the understanding that the driver did not want to go down the main road were the previous assassination attempt had been taken out.
2) Another conspiracy that many people know of is the fact that Franz Joseph may have wanted to go to war, and one way he would be able to go to war is with a short term trigger. This simply meaning a reason to start a world war. There are many reasons why people want war, these may include territory, power and and land potentially holding oil and mining area.
